Brand Story vs. About Page: What’s the Difference?

Your About page is a place. Your brand story is the narrative underneath it.

THE IDEAREAD FIRST

Start with the part that actually matters.

These terms are often used interchangeably, but they solve different communication problems. Knowing the difference helps you build a stronger site.

01Brand Storytelling

The About page is the destination

An About page is a piece of website content. It can include the founder story, team, mission, process, credentials, and a call to action.

Its job is to help a visitor understand the company and decide whether to trust it enough to take the next step.

02Brand Storytelling

The brand story is the narrative

A brand story is the underlying arc: where the business came from, what it believes, what it noticed that others missed, and why that perspective matters to the customer.

That story can then be adapted into the About page, pitch deck, social bio, founder bio, and other brand touchpoints.

03Brand Storytelling

Build once, adapt many times

When the core story is clear, you do not have to invent a new explanation every time your business needs copy. You can keep the narrative consistent while changing the format for the audience.
